These cartridges provide superior filtration, are biodegradable, and help reduce waste, keeping both your aquarium and the planet cleaner.
If you have an old CF filter, there’s no need to buy a new system—just slide in the new Coir-Tech Cartridges, and they’ll work perfectly. However, our Bio-CF Conversion Kit is available if you want to make filter maintenance quicker, easier, and mess-free. Follow the instructions below to upgrade your filter with the conversion kit.
Step-by-Step Bio-CF Conversion Instructions
- Lift the Clear Lid
Open the filter lid to its fully upright position. This will give you access to the internal filter components. - Remove the Old CF Cartridge
Take out the old CF cartridge from the filter and dispose of it responsibly, as it will no longer be needed in the upgraded system. - Remove the CF Holster & Algaway Pad
Slide the CF holster out of the filter and remove the old Algaway pad. Be sure to discard this responsibly as well. - Insert the New Coir-Tech Cartridge
Now it’s time to bring the upgrade to life! Insert the new Coir-Tech cartridge into the CF holster (new for Bio-CF Mini), and then reinsert the holster into the filter, following the guide images below. This new cartridge is made from biodegradable coconut fibres, offering sustainable, superior filtration. - Swap the Ceramic Media (If Needed)
Next, remove the Ceramic Media cartridge. If the bio media is mature with beneficial bacteria, you can transfer the ceramic rings to the new cartridge using a small flat-headed screwdriver to release the tabs. Once done, clip on the new ceramic cage using the hooks provided in the conversion kit.
Note: If you’re setting up a new Bio-CF filter, ceramic rings are already included, so you won’t need to transfer anything.
- Attach the Coir-Tech Cartridge
Secure the new Coir-Tech cartridge to the hooks on the ceramic cartridge, as shown in the accompanying images. Reinsert the entire setup into the back of your filter to complete the conversion.
